During the year 2017-18, Rotary Bangalore Rajmahal Vilas, R.I. Dist. 3190 under Past President, Rtn. Dr. Anita Shah, sponsored a specialised life-saving low efficiency dialysis machine at a cost of about Rs. 16 lakhs to the paediatric ICU of the People Tree Hospital.
This machine is different from regular dialysis machines. Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is a major contributor influencing the outcomes in critically ill patients and especially children.
The paediatric ICU of People Tree Hospital is a 24 bedded ICU that caters to children from newborns to 15 years of age, suffering from ailments such as Dengue, Trauma, food poisoning etc. In such children, acute kidney failure can happen at any time which can be life-threatening.
The SLED machine helps in sustained and low-efficiency dialysis in these children. The SLED Dialysis machine in paediatric ICU was officially inaugurated by Rotary District 3190 District Governor Rtn. Asha Prasanna Kumar on 17th June 2018 at People Tree Hospital, Goraguntepalya, Tumkur Road.
